BGP Car Rules

1.0 Chassis Frame and Cage

  • Mass produced 4 wheel vehicle certified for highway use.
    • No  Electric or hybrid Vehicles may enter.  .
  • Wheelbase
    • Minimum of 80 inches
    • Must be stock wheel base for model chassis used.
  • OE Crush Structures
    • Cars that alter OE crush structures including removing frame rails or unibody structures outside of the wheelbase will be evaluated for safety and may fail safety tech at WTC official’s discretion.
  • Roll Cage
    • Must meet approval of WTC.  May be fail at WTC official’s discretion.
      • Attachment points will be evaluated. Those that lack reinforcement, ate thin or inadequate will cause the racecar to fail tech..
    • Bolt in cages are not allowed
    • Must include
      • Front hoop
      • Rear hoop
      • Front and rear hoop must be braced to each other along roof line
      • Minimum 2 drivers side door bars each side
        • X allowed
        • Design of door bars does not  have to match side to side
        • Top edge of the highest bar and bottom edge of the lowest bar must be at least 7.5 inches apart.
        • The top edge of the top door bars cannot be higher than the bottom of the side window.
      • Main hoop back stays (no bends)
        • Must attach to the main hoop within 8 inches of the main hoop’s highest point.
        • Must be forward of back edge of rear wheel well.
          • Small cars may be granted an exception
      • One main hoop diagonal bar
      • Appropriate spreader plates and gussets
      • Each major member must be made from a single continuous tube.
      • Shoulder harness bar  (15 degrees lower than harness entry point at seat.)
      • Dash bar recommended
    • Roll bar tubing
      • Cars less than 3000 lbs
        • 1.5 x .120
        • 1.75 x .090
      • Cars greater than 3000 lbs
        • 1.75 x 1.20
      • DOM mild steel tubing is recommended
    • Spreader Plates
      • Steel
      • Minimum 24 sq inches
      • 0.125 thickness
    • Cage must clear drivers head by at least 2 inches at all points.
    • Tow Strap Required
      • Marked
        • Arrow with word “TOW” recommended
      • Must attach to bumper or frame

2.0 Interior

    • Must be completely enclosed and shield driver
      • from engine compartment front or rear
        • Firewall required
        • must be adequate barrier against fire and hot fluids
      • from track surface
      • from tires
      • from rear fuel compartment
        • Firewall required
        • must be adequate barrier against fire and hot fluids
    • Gaps or holes must be sealed
    • Interior panels must be minimum of 0.040 inch aluminum or steel
    • No sharp edges
    • Interior must be neat in appearance
    • All live wires/terminals must be properly insulated
    • All items must be securely mounted
    • Fuel, Oil and Coolant Lines that extend through the drivers compartment must be encased in heavy duty conduit, aluminum pipe or metal plate.
    • Air bags must be removed.
       
  • Safety

3.0 Bodies-

  • Numbers
    • Assigned at the discretion of the series
    • Must be on both sides / roof / hood
    • Must be minimum 12 inches high
    • Must be clearly readable judged solely at the WTC officials discretion
  • Doors
    • Must be OEM or made of similar gauge and material
    • Properly fastened
       
  • Fenders
    • Must be OEM or made of similar gauge and material
    • Properly fastened
       
  • Hoods
    • Must be OEM or made of similar gauge and material
    • Properly fastened
       
  • T-Tops / Open Convertibles
    • Arm restraints must be warn
       
  • Sun roofs
    • Must be sealed with metal or aluminum
       
  • Nerf Bars
    • External bars of any type are not allowed
       
  • Glass
    • Only glass allowed is OE Automotive Laminated or tempered
    • Headlights, and taillights must be removed or taped over
    • Drivers side and Passenger side front windows must be removed or  left open behind fully encased door.

4.0   Brakes

  • General
    • Working condition at all 4 wheels
       
  • Brake lights
    • At all times must have at least 1 working brake light
      • Easily visible from rear
      • Stock protected by clear tape allowed
      • Location may be changed
      • May  not work similar to emergency vehicle lights (flashing or with sirens)
         
  • Proportioning valves allowed
     
  • Brake Ducting
    • Must be below bumper height

6.0 Fuel Systems

  • Fuel System must be in good working order
  • Fuel Capacity
    • OEM for make and model recommended
    • Fuel Stop time  – 5 minute time stop pit in to pit out
    • Fuel Tanks
      • No additional tanks allowed.
        • Multiple OEM tanks allowed if system is entirely OEM
      • Must be located in front or behind driver
        • OEM located OEM tanks that do not meet this rule will be granted a waiver.
      • Fuel Cells are allowed
        • Original Cell must be removed
        • Must have a purpose built metal container
        • Must have deformable, puncture resistant inner vessel or bladder
        • Must have anti-splash foam
        • Must be mounted in an acceptable matter solely at the discretion of WTC tech
        • Must use threaded fittings and appropriate hose types
        • Must use all appropriate vents, valves and safety features.
        • Vent lines must end in safe location lower than the bottom of the cell
        • Must be separated from the cockpit by metal panels
          • Metal encased FIA certified fuel cell with all of the related compliant fittings must be used if cell is not separated from the cockpit.
    • Filler Hoses
      • Non OEM must use purpose built hose , nylon reinforced with proper fuel system fasteners
    • Fuel
      • The only acceptable fuel is mass marketed gasoline blends and diesel.
        • No methanol allowed

7.0 Cooling –

  • Coolant
    • Water
    • No additives allowed
    • No Antifreeze
  • Catch Can
    • A functional catch can for overflow is mandatory

8.0 Electrical

  • Battery
    • Single battery
    • 12 Volt System only
    • Properly secured
      • purpose built brackets. battery frames or factory body mounts
    • If located in or visible from the passenger compartment must use battery box
       
  • Master Racing type Battery/Kill switch required.
    • Clearly marked with 3 inch or larger lightening bolt symbol
    • must be installed within reach of the driver
    • must be acceptable from the outside of the car
    • control should be red
    • Off position must be clearly indicated
    • Must kill all electric
       
  • Wires and Terminals
    • Exposed areas must use rubber covers pr well wrapped electrical tape

9.0 Exhaust

  • Custom or OEM allowed
    • Must be without leaks throughout the event
    • No straight pipes. ( Must use some type of muffler or resonator)
    • May not exceed 92 decibel @50 feet
    • Must use at least 2 flexible exhaust hangers
    • Must dump behind driver
    • May not be in excess of 6 inches under body

11.0   Steering

15.0  Windows 

  • All window/sunroof glass  ( except OE safety glass front/rear windshield) must be removed.
     
  • Front Windshield
    • Full
    • Cracked windshields may fail tech at discretion of WTC tech.
    • OE-type allowed
    • 1/8 inch minimum true Polycarbonate
      • Acrylic is not allowed
      • Other plastics not allowed
      • Window must be braced in a manner that prevents bending concave
  • Rear windshield
    • If OE glass retained, must be covered by glass safety film
      • 3m automotive Window Film Scotchshield Security Series
         
  • Window Net:
    • Recommended- ribbon or mesh type only.
    • SFI rated.
    • Must be hinged from bottom with quick release buckle or lever type latch.
